The Pleasure Salon has been created to build community, allowing sex-positive activists to cross-pollinate. Our gatherings bring together members of the BDSM, swinger, alternative gender, LGBT, sex-activist, nudist, sex-magic, polyamory, Pagan, radical faerie, tantra, dark odyssey, sex-blogger, porn, pervert and sex-worker communities, and others whose passion is sex. (Let us know if we missed any one of you!) Through building networks in the sex-positive community, The Pleasure Salon hopes to help create a sex-positive world. It is a place for the open exchange of ideas and sensual expression.

We have been thrilled by the turnout at previous gatherings. A community of New York area Pleasure Positive folks is developing rapidly, and we hope that you will join us or continue to be part of it. Please invite your like-minded friends. LSM is pleased to present special guest Jo Arnone, co-founder of the Lesbian Sex Mafia, to take us through the painful pleasures of flogging. From the soft caress of deerskin, the sharp sting of a braided cat or the heavy thud of flat tails, a flogging can be sensual, erotic or simply a painful experience. Learn the proper techniques, safety, equipment and the fun of it all. Bring your whips, if you have any. There will be a few available to try as well.

Location: Room 410 at the LGBT Center in Manhattan, 208 West 13th Street. Admission is only $5 for LSM Members, $10 for non-members — and you’ll want to get there early as we expect the room to fill fast.

Jo Arnone has been a member of the NY Leather Community since it’s earliest years and has been teaching flogging to willing audiences for even longer. She is a Co-Founder of LSM and has been the Leather Pride Night Auctioneer for nearly 25 years. During that time she has donated her auctioneering talents to over 150 events all across the United States helping to raise over one million dollars for worthy charities including In the Life, Whitman Walker Clinic, God’s Love We Deliver, Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, and Bucks County Community Services.

Lesbian Sex Mafia is a social and educational organization for women and transfolk (see membership description below) who have a positive personal interest in BDSM with other women. Our tenets are safety, consensuality, confidentiality and the right of women to explore their sexuality as they choose.

Membership in Lesbian Sex Mafia is open to all women 18 years of age or older including gay, straight, bi, and transsexual and intersexed women who live their daily lives as women, and all female-born transgendered persons who have a connection with and respect for the women’s community. If traveling by car: Parking Lot G ($10 per car) It fills up fast, so get there early, or you may have a very long walk. Walk to the right of the snack stand. We will have a large “Pleasure Salon” sign.

If interested in carpooling, please indicate in your reply by clicking the car pool option, especially if you can give someone a ride.

If traveling via Public Transportation: East Side Seastreak Ferry at Pier 11 (Wall Street) or at East 34th St in Midtown. Travel time is 35 minutes.
Roundtrip Fare $43 (cash only) ferries leave 34th Street at 8:00am and 10:30am. Returns to Manhattan at 3:45 and 5:45.

Keep in mind – you can only purchase roundtrip tickets for the ferry!

We will bring two large coolers of ice for drinks (alcohol is allowed; all food and drink must be in plastic containers or cans — no glass). There is a snack stand, if you get hungry, or you can bring snacks to share. You should bring at least one bottle of water for yourself.

As I’m sure a number of you will remember from last summer, CV was heavily involved with the first year of this event, and made up a formidable population of our own at the festivities. We volunteered, presented, and all-around had an amazing time. For those of you who would be interested in joining us again this year or for the first time, check out the Floating World site for more information.

Should you be interested in going to The Floating World and volunteering (thereby also saving on admission fee), then you should email volunteer@thefloatingworld.org in order to get on the volunteers list. It totally does not keep you from enjoying the rest of the convention. We’re not yet sure of how many hours of work are involved, but last year they said 12 and wound up giving everyone only 8. Make sure to mention that you’re with Conversio Virium!

They missed last year, but this year they’re planning to be back bigger and better! TESFest is The Eulenspiegel Society‘s (mostly) annual BDSM extravaganza, an event loaded with educational workshops, playtime, and lots and lots of interesting personalities!
